The highly anticipated Reelin’ 4 a Cause Charity Fishing Tournament is set to make waves on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in support of CalvertHealth’s Cancer Center. Anglers from across the region will come together for a day of fishing, camaraderie and fundraising, all in the name of advancing cancer care in Southern Maryland.
The tournament kicks off in the early morning with teams heading out to the Chesapeake Bay in search of the day’s best catch. But the real excitement begins after the lines are reeled in, as participants and supporters gather at Spring Cove Marina in Solomons for the Shore Party. This lively celebration will feature music, food and festivities as the community comes together to honor the tournament's impact and the funds raised to support CalvertHealth’s Cancer Center.
Darren Rickwood, Chair of the Reelin’ 4 a Cause Committee, expressed his gratitude, saying, “It has been an honor to be a part of this amazing event that continues to grow year after year. It is because of the dedication and generosity of local community members that we can kick off events like this fishing tournament. Without all of our amazing sponsors, anglers and donors, the tournament would not be the success that it is!”
This year’s event promises more than just a day on the water. It’s also a chance for teams to participate in the Captain’s Challenge, a fundraising competition where the Captain and team that raise the most money will be crowned the winners. Along with bragging rights, the winning team will have their name proudly displayed on a plaque at CalvertHealth Medical Center, serving as a lasting tribute to their dedication and generosity.
All proceeds from Reelin’ 4 a Cause will directly benefit CalvertHealth’s oncology navigation program, a vital service that helps cancer patients and their families navigate the complex healthcare system. The oncology navigators work closely with patients to provide guidance, support, and empowerment throughout their cancer journey, ensuring they receive the best possible care. This program, strengthened by CalvertHealth’s partnership with Duke Health, one of the nation’s top cancer programs and a National Cancer Institute Designated Center, is instrumental in improving the quality of life for those facing cancer in our community.
The success of Reelin’ 4 a Cause would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Bayside Auto Group; Servpro of St. Mary’s and Calvert; Cryptic Pizza; D&D Homes; Garner Exteriors; OakPoint Insurance; Spring Cove Marina; Gibbons Marine Construction, Inc.; First Home Mortgage, Rickwood Mortgage Team; All Tackle.com; Calvert Marine Museum; Fantasy World Entertainment; Maertens Fine Jewelry; Herring Creek Furniture at Cecil’s Old Mill; Sparks Custom Metal Works; and Dickinson Jewelers.
